Ceasefire Between India and Pakistan Announced
The situation between India and Pakistan shifted dramatically on Saturday evening, transforming from heightened tensions to a ceasefire in just half an hour.
It all kicked off at 5:25 PM when US President Donald Trump announced that both nations had agreed to a “full and immediate” ceasefire, following extensive negotiations that extended late into the night.
Shortly after, confirmation of the ceasefire came from both India’s and Pakistan’s Foreign Ministries. India indicated that the agreement encompassed land, sea, and air operations, as the director of military operations from Pakistan made contact with his Indian counterparts at 5 PM.
In a post on Truth Social around 8 AM in Washington, D.C., Trump expressed satisfaction, noting, “We are pleased to announce that after a long night of discussions via the United States, India and Pakistan have agreed to a complete and immediate suspension. Congratulations.”
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also communicated with officials from both countries, including Indian Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistani Army Secretary Asim Munir. He reported that both sides had agreed to the ceasefire.
Rubio further mentioned that India and Pakistan are set to initiate discussions on a variety of issues at neutral venues.
In a tweet, Rubio commended Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif for their foresight and decision-making in opting for a peaceful resolution.
