A recent poll reveals that a significant majority of Americans support efforts to address waste, fraud, and abuse in Medicaid, as reported by Breitbart News.
This internal GOP poll comes amidst ongoing Congressional discussions regarding Medicaid reform due to budget negotiations. Republicans are advocating for measures to uphold the system’s integrity, by targeting non-eligible candidates for benefits, including individuals who are undocumented. Despite opposition from Democrats, they maintain that the existing framework should stay in place.
The poll results appear to motivate Republicans to persist with their reform agenda.
An impressive 86% of respondents, with 65% expressing strong support, endorsed the idea of “eliminating Medicaid waste, fraud, and abuse by halting payments to ineligible beneficiaries.”
Only 12% voiced opposition.
When participants were asked about “enhancing citizenship verification to confirm that new Medicaid applicants are indeed eligible,” 82% showed support, while just 17% disagreed.
The question of instituting work requirements for able-bodied adults who are not employed, along with their dependents in care, saw 72% backing the proposal, against 22% who opposed it.
Clearly, many Americans believe that Medicaid is burdened with significant issues.
Regarding perceptions of waste and fraud within Medicaid, 71% of respondents indicated that there is “a lot” or “some.”
The House Energy and Commerce Committee is scheduled to meet on Tuesday to discuss budgetary adjustments necessary to adhere to previous budget resolutions, ultimately aiming for substantial savings for taxpayers in light of President Trump’s broader policy agenda, which includes significant tax reductions.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) aims to advance the settlement bill to the Senate before an upcoming anniversary, hoping to see Senate Majority Leader John Tune (R-SD) facilitate its passage by Independence Day.
If Republicans successfully implement Medicaid reforms, it could provide another point of pride for American taxpayers.
