Quinn Ewers kicked off the 2024 college football season amidst expectations that he’d be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, he surprisingly dropped to the seventh and final round last month.
He was the last quarterback selected in a draft that featured a total of 14 quarterbacks. Ewers’ agent commented on this unexpected turn, and the 23-year-old shared his thoughts on the situation.
While Ewers admitted to being surprised by falling to the seventh round, he’s ready to seize the opportunity with the Miami Dolphins.
“I didn’t expect it to fall as low as I did,” Ewers said. “At the end of the day, I have everyone else having the same opportunity, and I’m grateful for it. I just want to go out there and play games, learn, and develop as a quarterback.”
Entering the Miami quarterback room, Ewers will be alongside notable figures like Tua Tagovailoa and Zach Wilson, both second picks in their respective drafts.
Ewers finished his two-year run as the starting quarterback at Texas with a solid record of 21 wins and 5 losses, leading the Longhorns to the college football playoffs over the past two seasons. He even threw three touchdowns in a thrilling double-overtime game during the quarterfinals against Arizona.
Starting his college career at Ohio State before transferring to Texas, Ewers wrapped things up in Austin with a total of 68 touchdown passes to his name.
On the Dolphins’ roster, Tagovailoa’s recent injury history has sparked discussions about his long-term health, while Wilson transitioned to the Denver Broncos after three challenging years with the New York Jets. Ewers acknowledged the competitiveness among Miami’s quarterbacks.
“There are so many people out there right now, everyone is fighting for the same job,” Ewers reflected. “We are all competitive, but we are cool at the same time because some of these guys are going to be teammates with us.”
