For Aaron Glenn, this moment felt worlds apart from 1994 when he donned his ideal uniform on the field outside Hofstra’s Wib Ewbank Hall as a first-round cornerback for the Jets under rookie head coach Pete Carroll.
Now, he finds himself back with the same team—this time on the practice field at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center—stepping into his new role as head coach. He’s not just a position coach like he was in New Orleans or even a defensive coordinator in Detroit; he’s the head coach of the New York Jets.
“My focus is on the entire team now,” Glenn remarked. “Being able to go to any position and share my thoughts on how things should be done is a great opportunity. It’s genuinely enjoyable to coach and part of my growth in this role.”
Glenn has yet to lose his competitive edge as the Jets’ head coach, and he hasn’t felt compelled to address the franchise’s ongoing 14-year playoff drought. There’s no need for him to channel his inner Bill Parcells right now, but a strong team identity for the New York Jets is definitely expected to emerge as training camp unfolds.
