Trump promises to boost trade with India and Pakistan after commending the ceasefire agreement.

Trump Pledges to Boost India-Pakistan Trade Following Ceasefire

On Saturday, US President Donald Trump promised to enhance trade relations between India and Pakistan after both countries reached a ceasefire agreement to end hostilities. “While it hasn’t been discussed, I plan to significantly increase trade with these two great nations,” he mentioned, adding that he would explore solutions to the long-standing Kashmir issue.

The ceasefire, fragile yet pivotal, was established on Sunday after intense fighting had escalated over the prior days. This diplomatic breakthrough, influenced by US efforts, came amid fresh shelling in Kashmir shortly after the agreement was announced.

Overnight attacks persisted in border cities, causing power outages and raising concerns.

The conflict reignited on Wednesday following an attack in Pahargam, Kashmir, which resulted in 26 fatalities among Hindus two weeks prior. Both nations hold claims over parts of Kashmir, each insisting on full control.

Later on Saturday, India accused Pakistan of breaching the ceasefire agreement, directing its military to respond firmly to the ongoing clashes. Pakistan countered these claims, asserting its commitment to maintaining the ceasefire.

Mixed Reactions to the Ceasefire

By Sunday morning, reports indicated that combat and explosions had subsided on both sides of the border, at least temporarily.

In his comments, Trump expressed pride in the leadership displayed by both nations. He noted, “Millions of innocent lives, perhaps, could have been lost. Your legacy is strengthened by these courageous moves. I feel honored to have assisted in reaching this historic decision.”

Meanwhile, the atmosphere in the Indian city of Amritsar shifted back to normal as sirens faded away following the ceasefire announcement.

Pakistani officials claimed they had fired upon Bimbah in Kashmir during the night, yet reported no further conflict or casualties elsewhere.

Historically, India and Pakistan have engaged in three wars, mostly centered around Kashmir.
