Man discovered deceased in enclosure with kangaroos and wallabies in South Carolina

A man was found dead from multiple blunt force injuries in an enclosure housing kangaroos and wallabies. Reports indicate he may have had a history of interactions with one of the animals. The individual, identified as 52-year-old Eric Slate, was related to the owner of the animals.

This tragic incident occurred on Friday evening at 5 Star Farm, a petting zoo situated around 30 miles from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. According to local council member Mark Cause, the animals thought to be involved in the incident have not been euthanized.

The farm, which has been operational for over 15 years, features a variety of animals, including camels, ponies, and llamas.

The owner of 5 Star Farm, Robert Slate, expressed on social media that the incident has been devastating for the family. He emphasized a need for respect and support during this difficult time, noting, “The animals weren’t his safe enclosure either.”

Authorities have launched an investigation and are conducting an autopsy. The Horry County police confirmed that all animals at the farm are accounted for and secure, posing no risk to the surrounding community.
