Cavaliers dealing with possible Donovan Mitchell injury concern before Game 5

Cavaliers Face Major Challenges

The Cavaliers are in quite a predicament.

Not only did they lose to the Pacers during their trip to Indiana, but they also had a 3-1 series lead in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. To add to their woes, Donovan Mitchell left the game with an injury at halftime and did not return.

“He’ll get an MRI tomorrow,” said Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson. “I mean, I don’t know [of his status]. Clearly, he couldn’t continue in the second half, so we’ll see what the MRI reveals.”

Mitchell’s injury seemed to occur unexpectedly, possibly during his warm-up at halftime when he suddenly went down while holding his ankles. Maybe he was testing his limits after an earlier injury, only to find he wasn’t able to continue.

He managed to score 12 points in 20 minutes, but the Cavaliers ultimately lost 129-109, trailing by a staggering 41 points at halftime.

Cleveland has already dealt with injuries affecting Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and DeAndre Hunter throughout the series, making their situation even more precarious.

Mitchell had been a crucial player, scoring over 40 points in back-to-back games—43 points in Game 3 and 48 points in Game 2.

Now, the Cavaliers might have serious issues heading into Game 5, particularly if they play without his prolific scoring.

Cleveland had an impressive 64-18 record in the Eastern Conference during the regular season but seems to be struggling against the Pacers.

Indiana managed to take the first two games in Cleveland and then narrowly avoided a potential 3-0 deficit by overpowering the Cavaliers 126-104 in Game 3.

Facing a tough road ahead, Cleveland must find a way to rally and overcome a 3-1 deficit on Sunday.

Game 5 is scheduled to tip off at 7 PM in Cleveland on Tuesday.
