Virat Kohli has announced his retirement from Test cricket, bringing an illustrious career in the longest format of the game to a close just days after Captain Rohit Sharma did the same.
“It’s been 14 years since I first donned the blue for Test cricket,” the 36-year-old shared on social media. “Honestly, I never anticipated the journey this format would take me on. It challenged me, molded me, and imparted lessons I’ll carry with me for life.
“There’s something uniquely personal about playing with a white ball. The quiet of the grounds, the long hours, those fleeting moments that go unnoticed—they stay with you. Departing from this form is tough, but I feel it’s the right decision.
“I walk away with immense gratitude. For the game itself, for my teammates, and for everyone who supported me throughout this journey. I’ll always look back at my career in Test cricket with a smile.”
