Trump’s Administration Eyeing Boeing 747-8 Jet Gift from Qatar
President Donald Trump’s administration is looking to accept a Boeing 747-8 jet, often referred to as the “flying palace” by the royal family of Qatar.
If the discussions move forward, Trump would use this aircraft as a high-standard alternative to Air Force One. This information comes from an anonymous source cited by ABC News.
Boeing previously secured a $3.9 billion contract to create a new jet by 2024 for the Air Force. However, delays have pushed the expected completion date to 2029.
Trump has expressed a desire to embrace such luxurious jets in what he describes as a transparent deal. He has also criticized Democrats who oppose this gift, labeling them as “world-class losers” and emphasizing their insistence on paying a fair price for the plane.
Critics point to constitutional issues, arguing that accepting gifts from foreign leaders requires parliamentary approval. They state, “We will not accept any kind of gifts from a king, prince, or foreign country without the consent of the parliament.”
The Trump administration contends that this arrangement is warranted since it doesn’t fall under formal diplomatic actions.
The jet is intended to be given to the Department of Defense until the Boeing contract is complete. Following that, it will reportedly be donated to Trump’s Presidential Library, as mentioned by ABC News.
A spokesperson for Qatar noted to Reuters that the transfer is still under consideration. Trump is expected to visit Qatar soon as part of a Middle East tour, but he won’t be accepting the jets during this trip.
