Most WNBA teams will need to let go of several players soon.

As the WNBA season approaches, the roster situation remains a bit unclear, with teams needing to finalize their lineups. Here’s a look at where each team stands as of today, Monday, May 12th.

Indiana Fever

Right now, the Indiana Fever has secured 12 players on their roster, staying within the salary cap. They made their major roster decisions ahead of the season, letting go of Briehall, Gillian Allain, and Yvonne Egym earlier in training camp. Moving forward, any additional changes would require them to engage in the free agency market after other teams make their cuts.

Las Vegas Aces

The Aces currently have 14 players on the roster. Since Cheyenne Parker Taius is on maternity leave, there’s some flexibility, although they did recently release Harmoni Turner and Queen Egbo. The team may cut two more players, possibly bringing their active roster down to 11. Rookies Aaliyah Nai, Liz Kitley, Deja Kelly, and Crystal Bradford are all on the cusp of making the team, but tough decisions loom since all four performed well in camp.

New York Liberty

The New York Liberty has 16 players in their training camp, including Vietniya Rainey Hamilton. Rumors suggest they may suspend her contract to create room for another player. Still, they’ll need to make at least three cuts, with candidates including Jaylin Sherrod, Esmery Martinez, Leona Odom, and Anica Soltau. Sherrod, who played with the team last season, seems to have an edge.

Minnesota Lynx

Minnesota is close to finalizing its roster, holding 13 players. They recently let go of Reagan Richardson, and Dorka Juhasz will sit out this season. The Lynx might make a couple more cuts to finalize at 11 players, but it’s hard to gauge which of Diamond Mirror, Grace Burger, Jessica Shepherd, Alyssa Piri, Anastasia Orairicos, or Mariem Badian could be cut.

Phoenix Mercury

The Mercury’s roster includes 16 players, which indicates that cuts are imminent. Without a draft pick this year, all non-protected players are on training camp contracts, many of whom are relatively inexperienced in the WNBA. The current situation makes it hard to guess who will be let go, but they will need to reduce their roster to 12 players ultimately.

Dallas Wings

Recently, the Dallas Wings cut My Yamamoto and Madison Scott, leaving them with 13 players in camp. There are still 1-2 cuts to make. Rookies JJ Quinerly and Azaiha James remain on the roster alongside camp signers Kaila Charles, Joyner Holmes, and Luisa Geiselsöder. If they aim for 12, it would be encouraging to see both James and Quinerly secure spots.

Seattle Storm

The Storm’s roster stands at 14, including Katie Lou Samuelson, who might be out for the season due to injury. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean she’ll be cut just yet. With a couple of cuts still needed, newer players like Li Yueru, Zia Cooke, Brianna Fraser, Mackenzie Holmes, and Serena Sundell are at risk.

Golden State Valkyries

The Valkyries have 17 players in training camp but will eventually need to trim that down to 12. Clearly, at least five players will be cut. Their roster features 2025 draftee Caitlin Chen and rookie Cara Leit, as well as a variety of camp signers. As a new team, making accurate predictions on the final lineup is challenging.

Connecticut Sun

The Sun added another player, Bria Hartley, bringing their camp total to 18. To get down to 12, they will have to make multiple cuts. This includes four drafted players and five camp signers, and with Hartley’s recent signing, they might want to keep her around.

Chicago Sky

After recent cuts involving Alex Wilson, Morgan Burtch, and Jessica Carter, the Chicago Sky now has 12 players. With the available cap space, this latest lineup is likely final. It seems promising for rookies Haley Van Liss and Maddie Westveld to make the cut.

Washington Mystics

Washington has 16 players in training camp, including Georgia Amoore, whose injury status remains uncertain as she awaits knee surgery. It seems unlikely she will be cut, but they will still need to make 4-5 cuts from players like Cadizia Caves, Emily Ingstra, Ashten Prepchell, Lauren Jensen, Lucy Olson, Zaye Green, and Deer Corn.

Atlanta Dream

The Dream recently released Ashley Johns, leaving them with 14 players. It appears that 2-3 more cuts are on the horizon. Players like Maya Caldwell, Taylor Thierry, Te-Hina Paopao, Shyanne Sellers, and potentially Haley Jones are at risk of being let go. After signing her with an exemption post-release from the Valkyries, it’s worth watching if she makes the final roster.

Los Angeles Sparks

The Sparks have recently cut Liatu King, bringing their training camp numbers down to 15. With plans to finalize at 12, at least three more cuts are expected. Their roster still includes Sarah Ashley Barker, Sania Fiegen, Chenies Swain, as well as camp signers like Maria Krundikova, Ahri Macdonald, and Emma Cannon.

The final WNBA roster is due on May 15th.
