LONDON (AP) – British authorities are looking into a fire that occurred overnight, damaging the doors of Keir Starmer’s family residence in northern London.
Since his election in July, Starmer has been living with his family at the Prime Minister’s official residence on Downing Street.
London firefighters reported that they received a call about a “small fire” shortly after 1 a.m. (midnight GMT, 8 p.m. EDT). Two fire engines responded and managed to control the flames within 30 minutes.
The Metropolitan Police indicated that officers arrived at the scene and noted damage “at the entrance to the property,” although fortunately, no one was injured. “The fire is under investigation,” the police stated as inquiries continue.
Starmer’s residences in Kentish Town have seen protests before. Last year, three pro-Palestinian activists were arrested and charged with public order offenses after displaying banners covered in red paint outside the properties.
