Olympic gold medalist and former Ohio State wrestler Kyle Snyder was arrested on Friday related to prostitution, according to several reports.
The 29-year-old was among 16 men charged following incidents involving stabbing injuries in the north side of Columbus, as reported by Columbus police.
Columbus Police Sergeant Joe Albert shared that the department had placed an ad online for escort services to nab individuals attempting to engage in prostitution.
Snyder reportedly contacted the police after encountering an ad around 8:15 PM on Friday, sending a text and later arriving at a nearby hotel, believing he was meeting a legitimate escort service.
Upon his arrival, officers stated he had paid the undercover officer in cash and requested oral sex before being arrested for solicitation. He was subsequently released from the scene.
During his wrestling career at Ohio State, Snyder won the NCAA Heavyweight Championship three consecutive times from 2016 to 2018 and contributed to the team’s national title win in 2015.
He was honored by being inducted into the university’s Athletics Hall of Fame in 2024.
In addition to his collegiate achievements, Snyder represented the U.S. at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, where he became the youngest American wrestler to win gold at the age of 20. He also competed in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, securing a silver medal.
His recent performance placed him fourth in the 2024 Paris Games.
Snyder has been ordered to appear in court on May 19.
