Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) is set to address Democratic gatherings in South Carolina and California at the end of this month, igniting speculation regarding his own presidential aspirations as a former vice presidential candidate.
These two states hold significant importance; South Carolina is the first state to shape the Democratic primary, while California boasts the largest number of Democrats. Both events are scheduled for May 31st.
“Governor Walz has been recognized for his leadership approach,” stated South Carolina Democrats on X. “We are thrilled to welcome him to South Carolina.”
“Governor Tim Walz is poised to take the stage at the Anaheim convention,” remarked California Democratic Party Chairman Rusty Hicks in a statement. “He champions fairness, dignity, and opportunity for all, dedicating his career to family values and our shared beliefs.”
The New York Times reported on Monday about his emerging plans.
Walz has become increasingly visible since President Trump’s inauguration, raising questions about his potential run for the presidency in 2028, especially after gaining notoriety as a running mate for former Vice President Kamala Harris.
He drew attention recently with comments made at an event hosted by Harvard’s Kennedy School Political Institute.
Walz acknowledged an earlier misstep in the campaign and expressed a desire to assist Democrats in regrouping for the upcoming election cycle.
“Donald Trump has been on the campaign trail since that infamous escalator moment and hasn’t paused. We need to mirror that or we risk losing,” Walz stated.
