Six immigrants have reportedly been apprehended in the U.S. and are now charged with the random shooting death of a woman in South Carolina.
The incident took place on Riverside Road, near Lancaster, during the night and was characterized as an attempted robbery. The victim, 40-year-old Larisha Challel Thompson, was found shot in her vehicle. According to WCNC:
Sheriff Barry Ferru noted that three adults were arrested related to the case. On May 2, three teenage boys believed to be involved in Thompson’s death were also taken into custody. Thompson, a resident of Lancaster, had left home earlier that evening for Rock Hill, as confirmed by her family. After losing contact with her, they began searching, eventually locating her car about seven miles from home, with her body still inside.
The suspects, who are said to have entered the U.S. from Honduras via an unknown route, are between the ages of 13 and 21.
“We have six individuals who are here unlawfully,” Ferru mentioned. “They have taken the lives of innocent women.”
As the Herald reported, this same group allegedly attempted to rob a nearby store just days before the shooting.
Investigators have collected ballistic evidence linking the bullets found in Thompson’s vehicle to the crime scene at the store. Notably, a 21-year-old named Asael Aminadas Torres-Chirinos has been connected to both incidents.
Torres-Chirinos was arrested at his home last Thursday. During the house search, detectives reportedly recovered the firearms used in both crimes.
Authorities have notified Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE), as the six suspects are now facing potential deportation under federal immigration law.
