Jalen Brunson Leads Knicks in Comeback Victory
Jalen Brunson once again donned his superhero cape, delivering a stunning performance in the second half that propelled the Knicks to another thrilling comeback. His remarkable effort brought the Knicks back from a 14-point deficit, pushing them to a 3-1 series lead over the Celtics in the Eastern Conference finals.
Brunson scored 26 of his team-leading 39 points after halftime, igniting the team’s rally at the TD Garden. “In moments like this, he really steps up,” said Mikal Bridges, who added 23 points. “He has this determination to win, and it shows in his play. He knows exactly where he wants to go.” It’s true—there’s something about his relentless drive that makes a difference. It’s inspiring to witness, especially having him on my team.
This season’s clutch player of the year had already tallied 28 points in the fourth quarters of the initial three games in this series. The Knicks had previously staged remarkable comebacks in games one and two, overcoming 20-point gaps in both encounters in Boston.
However, heading into Game 4, Brunson faced a challenging shooting night, hitting just 38.1% of his attempts. Despite that, he connected on four three-pointers out of 25 shot attempts on Monday night, which is certainly a turnaround.
Tom Thibodeau remarked, “He just has this ability to read the game. When we needed to be aggressive, he set the tone. His calmness under pressure really stands out.” It’s actually impressive how his preparation translates into confidence in those moments.
The addition of Karl-Anthony Towns showcased how impactful Brunson can be in decisive moments. It’s something special, witnessing him shine when it counts the most.
Brunson’s ability to perform late in games comes despite facing strong defensive players like Boston’s Jrue Holiday and Derrick White. “It sounds easier than it is,” he noted. “You have to respect your opponent and understand it’ll be tough, but I’m not daunted by that.” He is ready to give everything for the win, both for himself and the team.
