Coast Guard video captures intense capture of suspected drug smugglers at sea

A dramatic video highlights a recent operation by service members tasked with combating drug smuggling in the eastern Pacific. This operation was conducted by the crew of the US Coast Guard Cutter Kimball (WMSL 756) on April 17th.

Captured by third-class Petty Officer Austin Wiley, the footage showcases the rapid approach of the Kimball toward a vessel suspected of drug trafficking.

In the video, crew members can be heard shouting commands in Spanish at the suspected smugglers.

The suspect is ordered to lie face down with arms spread.

This was followed by the crew boarding the vessel and apprehending the individual.

The Coast Guard described this operation as a significant demonstration of the challenges involved in intercepting illegal activities at sea. They noted that Kimball shifted from surveillance to tactical law enforcement, ensuring safety for other vessels by neutralizing threats.

Over the course of five operations, the Kimball crew seized an impressive $214 million in drugs, which were later offloaded in San Diego.

The Coast Guard emphasized that illegal drugs present a serious danger to American society and acknowledged the efforts of their personnel to intercept these substances before they reach shore.
