New Jersey Looks into Unrest Caused by Democratic Protesters at ICE Detention Center

A New Jersey lawyer, Alina Haba, has initiated an investigation into a situation where Democrats allegedly trespassed at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center.

In a post on X, Haba announced that her office was “conducting a thorough investigation” regarding the events at Delaney Hall ICE Detention Center that occurred on Friday.

“My office is working with federal partners to carry out a complete investigation into what happened in Delaney Hall on Friday,” Haba stated. “As is typical in all the cases this office manages, we will meticulously review all available evidence before determining the next steps. I take these matters very seriously.”

Recent reports indicated that Haba expressed plans to “convict a trespass and evict multiple warnings from Homeland Security” regarding incidents at the ICE detention facilities.

Baraka, alongside other Democrats such as Raymonica McQuiver, Bonnie Watson Coleman, and Robert Menendez, was present at Delaney Hall, overseeing federal surveillance of the ICE facility.

Following his release, Baraka asserted that he “did nothing wrong,” according to a report from News12 New Jersey.

Some Democrats, including Rep. Ro Khanna, have criticized the Trump administration for arresting Baraka, suggesting it was an attack on Congressional members. In a post, Vice President JD Vance emphasized that being a Congress member does not exempt one from obeying the law.

“As the honorable Khanna himself said, being a member of Congress does not permit one to bypass the rule of law,” Vance remarked in a post sharing a screenshot of Khanna’s comments.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) also responded to Watson Coleman’s claims, stating in a post that “nothing happened” during the incident. However, a video shared by DHS shows Democrats appearing to push against law enforcement officials.

On Friday, DHS released several mug shots and criminal histories of detainees at Delaney Hall, stating that a group of protesters attempted to break into the detention facility when a detainee’s bus arrived.

“Members of Congress rushing into detention facilities is not just an odd political stunt but puts the safety of detainees and law enforcement at risk,” stated DHS Deputy Chief Tricia McLaughlin. “Congress members are not above the law and cannot unlawfully enter detention centers. If these members wanted tours, they would have requested them legally.”

On Monday, around 50 clergymen gathered outside the ice detention center to protest, offering “prayers for prisoners within the facility.” One protester mentioned to Fox News that they would remain until people realized the situation was unacceptable.
