Heidi Montag is quite real about her health, even if she’s not getting as much rest as she’d like.
“Honestly, being a mom means I’m just going to feel tired,” she confessed.
But that doesn’t mean she isn’t dedicated to healthy living. At 38, the reality star maintains her health habits, focusing on everything from her workouts to her strategies for keeping her energy levels up.
Keep everything in balance and don’t forget about probiotics.
“For me, healthy eating is crucial; it reduces the pressure to hit the gym,” Heidi explained.
As a mother of two, she seeks to maintain balance instead of strictly adhering to any diet trend. Her meals always include protein, healthy fats, and plenty of fruits and vegetables. She particularly enjoys hard-boiled eggs, avocados, and bananas.
“The kids are around, so it can be quite challenging!” she admitted. “I can’t resist occasionally grabbing bites of cake or mac and cheese. The kids’ food is just too tempting.”
Probiotics are also a big focus for her gut health, and she makes sure to include yogurt and fermented pickles in her meals.
“I’ve noticed my body feels better with it, so yogurt is part of my daily routine,” she said.
Don’t overthink – quick and easy is important.
Parenting definitely comes with its challenges. Sometimes, Heidi ends up making different meals for her family.
However, she’s thrilled when she can share a meal with one of her children.
“My son is all about meat and rice. He loves it, and I enjoy it with him,” she mentioned. “But of course, my portion of rice is modest.”
“I want to eat something quick and easy, like within five seconds. That’s my jam,” she laughed, admitting, “I just don’t have time to clean up after elaborate meals!”
Rule #3: Understand the energy boost before the gym.
Dealing with mom fatigue can be tough. Recently, Heidi partnered with a supplement brand to promote the benefits of energy and focus products. The campaign shows her tackling a comical goat yoga class.
“I always have my energy drinks. When it comes to working out, a little boost can go a long way,” she noted.
“Often, setting gym time like it’s an appointment helps,” she added.
Her routine typically involves a combination of treadmill and Versaclimber for about half an hour, followed by some weightlifting.
“I genuinely love working out, especially lifting weights. If I could, I’d do it every day,” she revealed.
She swears by a tool called Squat Max, which has been “life-changing” in alleviating her back pain.
Since January, however, her workout routine has faced challenges following a fire that destroyed the home she shared with her husband, Spencer.
“I haven’t had the same capacity since the fire. There’s just been so much to manage and prioritize,” she reflected.
“We lost all our gym equipment we had built up during the pandemic. I haven’t been able to lift since,” she said.
In fact, she feels she’s been really off-track lately, only managing to squeeze in a few dance rehearsals.
“But every day, I tell myself, ‘I’ll get back to it!’ Dance rehearsals are fun, but they aren’t quite the same as a dedicated gym session,” she explained.
Rule #4: Focus on strength rather than weight.
Heidi isn’t overly concerned with her weight.
“It’s like saving money,” she said. “I focus on my objectives and try not to stress over my weight because it fluctuates.”
“My goal is simply to be strong,” she emphasized.
She truly enjoys the way she feels after a gym session, relishing that personal time.
“I love the endorphins and just the overall feeling of investing time in myself,” she added.
Bonus Rules: Do I need a rest? Please rest.
While training is beneficial, sometimes what your body really craves is downtime. Some experts even suggest that resting can be more beneficial than rushing to fit in a morning workout.
“Right now, my top priority is rest. I’ve been traveling a lot and need to ensure I’m recharged,” Heidi said. “When I feel that need, it’s why I don’t hit the gym as frequently.”
She’s been mindful of not putting too much pressure on herself lately.
“Since the fire, I’ve felt less capacity to take on everything. I’ve had to cut back to focus on what truly matters,” she admitted.
“I’ve dedicated a lot of mental energy to processing that loss and figuring out how to move on. Now, I’m just in hustle mode.
“So while I’m out and about, I’ll value rest whenever I can, but I know stress can be detrimental, so I remind myself to appreciate the wins when they come.”
“In reality, not everyone can hit the gym daily. Life and caring for kids often take precedence. So whenever you grab those small victories, that’s wonderful, and if not, you’re still doing great.”
