President Donald Trump plans to lift sanctions on Syria and is set to meet the newly elected president, Ahmed al-Shaar, this Wednesday.
During a speech in Saudi Arabia, Trump remarked, “In Syria, we’ve seen so much suffering and loss. We now have a new government and it’s crucial for all of us to work towards stabilizing the country and ensuring peace.”
He added, “So I wish good fortune to Syria.”
The nation has faced isolation from the global financial community under the administration of Bashar al-Assad, particularly during the lengthy civil war that lasted 14 years.
