New Book Reveals Concerns About Biden’s Health
Details about a forthcoming book on former President Joe Biden’s health have surfaced, including some internal worries about his physical state, even as White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre laughed off the inquiries.
Entitled “The Original Crime: President Biden’s Decline, Cover-up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again,” this book is authored by CNN’s Jake Tupper and Axios reporter Alex Thompson. It’s set for release on Tuesday, but an early excerpt is already making waves by discussing the possibility of needing to put Biden in a wheelchair following the 2024 election.
The excerpt notes, “Biden’s physical decline—most notably his inability to walk—has become so significant that there has been internal discussion about using a wheelchair, although that wouldn’t happen until after the election.”
These conversations occurred behind closed doors, yet officials, including Jean-Pierre, have largely tried to downplay concerns surrounding Biden’s age and endurance, even as they become more apparent.
Reflecting on a 2022 interview with Don Lemon from CNN, Jean-Pierre expressed surprise at the question about Biden’s stamina beyond 2024. “Don, you’re asking me this? He’s the president of the United States. I can barely keep up with him,” she exclaimed, adding that the question shouldn’t even be raised given his workload and performance.
Lemon defended his questions, emphasizing the importance of assessing the president’s physical and mental capabilities, particularly as similar queries arise regarding other candidates, including Donald Trump.
Jean-Pierre has tended to dismiss concerns about Biden’s fitness, often laughing off media inquiries. A spokesperson for Biden commented to a news outlet, stating that the team hadn’t reviewed or fact-checked the book before it was published, underscoring the belief that Biden remains an effective president.
They asserted, “We’re still waiting for evidence suggesting that there was any failure on Biden’s part regarding national security or his ability to perform his duties. In fact, the opposite is true—he has been a very effective president.”
