Clay Holmes Focuses on Transition to Rotation
Clay Holmes has decided not to look ahead. With his shift from the bullpen to the starting rotation underway, he’s concentrating on honing his focus and steering clear of distractions tied to upcoming matchups, especially this weekend’s subway series in the Bronx.
He didn’t ask manager Carlos Mendoza or pitching coach Jeremy Hefner about altering the rotation, wanting to avoid any potential conflict with the Yankees.
As Holmes mentioned, “They will let you know when it’s your turn to pitch,” making it clear he’s leaving that up to them.
Although he’ll miss the subway series this time around, he understands it’s likely he’ll face the Yankees at some point in the future. For now, he’s gearing up to pitch against another former team, taking the mound in the series finale against the Pirates. This is the organization that originally developed him as a starter before he transitioned to the bullpen back in 2018.
