President Donald Trump remarked on Wednesday that Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer has “lost confidence,” hinting that “something is wrong” with the New York Democrat. Trump made these statements while en route to Qatar, during his second Middle East trip. This came in response to Schumer’s warning that he would block the president’s Justice Department appointee until he received clarification regarding a jumbo jet gift from the Qatari royal family.
“Schumer is Schumer,” Trump said. “He’s become quite a character. I know him well—maybe too well—and I think there’s something off. His confidence seems completely shaken.” Schumer had labeled the Qatar gift a “significant national security threat” on the Senate floor the day before.
The recent news surrounding the $400 million jet from Qatar has raised eyebrows. Top Democrats have labeled the situation as not just blatant corruption but a serious threat to national security. Schumer stated that he would halt all political candidates for the DOJ until he received more information about the deal, especially in light of Attorney General’s involvement.
Trump defended the decision to accept the jet gift, arguing that Boeing has failed to deliver a timely replacement for Air Force One. On his part, he expressed frustration with Boeing, stating, “We have an obsolete Air Force, and if you compare it with newer models, it’s not even close.”
