Iran Needs to Halt Support for Terrorism and Violent Proxy Conflicts in Nuclear Agreement

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump stated that Iran needs to “stop terrifying sponsors” as part of its nuclear agreement with the United States, as well as its ongoing “bloody proxy war.”

After addressing a group of Arab leaders at Saudi Arabia’s Gulf Cooperation Council, Trump headed to Qatar for his Middle East visit.

Trump expressed:

We are united with our friends and partners. We confront attacks that threaten us all. I want to establish a contract with Iran, if feasible. However, for that to materialize, they must halt their terrifying sponsorship, end the bloody proxy war, forever and ever, and stop pursuing nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons cannot be in their hands.

Trump emphasized the need for nuclear negotiations with Iran, insisting that it must cease its support for terrorist proxies abroad, including the Houthis, Hamas, and Hezbollah.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remarked that poor agreements with Iran are more detrimental than having no agreements at all. In 2015, he voiced his concerns to Congress, insisting that Iran must cease its attacks on neighboring Middle Eastern countries, stop supporting global terrorism, and refrain from threatening to obliterate Israel, the only Jewish nation. He argued that these elements were missing in Obama’s negotiations.
