Ford is recalling almost 274,000 SUVs in the US due to the possibility of brake failure.

Ford has initiated a recall affecting approximately 274,000 Lincoln Navigator SUVs in the United States due to a potential braking issue that could increase the risk of accidents.

Documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicate that the front brake lines in certain vehicles may improperly touch the engine air cleaner outlet pipe, leading to brake fluid leaks and possible brake failure.

The recall impacts 223,315 Expeditions and 50,474 Navigators from model years 2022 to 2024. Ford estimates that only about 1% of these vehicles might be defective.

While no accidents or injuries have been reported connected to this issue, by April 17, Michigan-based Ford had received 45 warranty claims related to leaks in the front brake lines.

To address the problem, Ford and Lincoln dealers will inspect the front brake lines of the affected vehicles. If necessary, they’ll replace the air cleaner outlet pipes at no cost to owners. Notifications to dealers are set to begin on Wednesday, and recall letters are expected to be mailed out between May 26 and May 30.

In the meantime, drivers can check if their vehicle is part of this recall. More details can be found on the NHTSA site or the Ford recall page. The reference number for this recall is 25S47.

According to NHSTA documents, drivers may notice increased pedal travel, meaning they might need to push harder to stop the vehicle. A dropping brake fluid level could also trigger a red warning indicator.

A Ford representative had no further comments when reached by the press.
