Rahm Emanuel says he refused bribes from Saudi Arabia when with Obama

Rahm Emmanuel Reflects on Saudi Trip and Jets Controversy

Former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel recently recounted an experience during a state visit to Saudi Arabia with then-President Obama, where he says he resisted a tempting offer from the Saudi government.

While discussing President Trump’s acceptance of jets from Qatar on ABC’s “The View,” Emmanuel remarked, “The White House has a sales sign on the front lawn.” He noted, “I’m from Chicago. We got a rover; this is a cash and portable business in this White House.”

Emmanuel reminisced about his first trip to Saudi Arabia with Obama, highlighting an encounter at the King’s Ranch. He described the lavish horses there, saying they appeared to be in better condition than some public housing in the U.S. He even sent a photo of the ranch to his wife, Amy, adding, “it’s not happening.”

This anecdote was brought to attention by the media, illustrating Emmanuel’s point about the implications of accepting gifts from foreign governments.

Concerns have arisen among lawmakers from both parties regarding Trump’s decision, suggesting it might threaten national security or complicate American foreign policy.

In response to the criticism, Trump defended his choice, telling reporters it would have been “silly” not to accept the offer from Qatar.
