Sinaloa Cartel Leaders Face Charges of Narco-Terrorism After Major Fentanyl and Drug Seizure

Two Leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel Indicted

Federal authorities recently captured two leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel. They, along with charges of narcoterrorism, drug trafficking, and money laundering, were part of significant investigations disclosed on May 13th.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, alongside the FBI, is currently looking into this case.

Pedro Insunza Noriega and his son, Pedro Insunza Colonel, are facing allegations of mass trafficking involving fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, and heroin throughout the United States.

According to a press release from the Department of Justice, the two are closely linked, actively exchanging fentanyl and managing large-scale transportation operations across the U.S. It’s noted that they play leadership roles in one of the largest fentanyl production networks.

The press release described them as “key leaders” of the Bertrand Leiva Organization (BLO), a violent faction within the Sinaloa Cartel, which is recognized as a significant player in global fentanyl production.

The BLO has been noted for its violent acts, including shootouts, murders, and torture, generating considerable income while terrorizing both communities and officials.

Additionally, five other leaders of the BLO have also been charged with trafficking and laundering money.

In a separate raid on December 3, 2024, Mexican law enforcement seized 1,500 kilograms of fentanyl from sites linked to the father-son duo.

The recent indictment stems from President Trump’s Executive Order 14,157, which labeled the Sinaloan cartel a foreign terrorist organization.

Prosecutors indicated that this indictment is a landmark case from the newly established Narcoterrorist force within the Department of Justice.

“The Operation Back America Initiative highlights the reality that narcotraffickers operate destructively within our communities,” stated Adam Gordon, an attorney for the Southern District of California. “If left unchecked, they contribute to a cycle of violence and corruption. This indictment aims to address that.”

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondy remarked, “The Sinaloa cartels represent a complex and dangerous threat, and dismantling them demands a robust legal approach.” She emphasized the urgency by stating that these issues profoundly affect American lives.

Ultimately, as the situation unfolds, authorities aim for serious repercussions for those involved.
