DOHA, Qatar – Theo Fong made a surprising appearance during President Trump’s speech to the US military on Thursday, with the president addressing popular podcasters near Qatar’s capital.
“I want to take a moment to applaud someone who’s really influential. My son, Baron, mentioned to me, ‘Dad, you could interview someone I haven’t heard of.’ But he actually knew him well,” Trump said.
“This was before the election. We secured a huge victory, in case you weren’t aware. Baron said, ‘Dad, you should talk to a guy named Theo Fong.’ I was like, ‘Who’s that?’ But Baron insisted he was a big deal.”
“Where’s Theo? I think I see him. Thank you very much, Theo,” Trump added.
“We had a fantastic time, right? Apparently, 270 million people tuned in.”
It remains unclear whether it was a phone call or something else – I noticed it in Miami not long ago. Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, were there for unspecified reasons, aside from saying hello to some of the roughly 13,000 troops stationed at the base.
Von’s “Last weekend with Theo Von” podcast is available on platforms like Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube. Trump’s interview from August has garnered around 16 million views, along with additional views for the shorter clips.
Trump also mentioned another celebrity who wasn’t present during the speech. He recounted an old story from their 2018 visit to Iraq, bringing up “Top Gun” star Tom Cruise.
“The Air Force was ready for us. The pilot looked better than Tom Cruise; he was honestly the most handsome person I’ve ever seen, and he’s my friend,” the president shared.
“These guys were straight out of central casting, and they could fly, too.”
