A group of Democratic voters has expressed disappointment with the opinion section of the New York Times. They emphasized a need to reconnect with the public and engage in discussions about how to meet people’s needs, acknowledging the seriousness of the situation. One voter remarked, referencing former President Trump, that “no one cares how malicious he is.”
The Democratic Party’s approval ratings are reportedly hitting record lows, particularly in light of Trump’s reactions following his 2024 victory.
“We’re focused on Trump and the threats he poses—perhaps too much, as it worked for us in 2020. But he was already in power then. We need to adopt a strategy similar to what Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders did,” a voter noted.

This group of voters has been notably critical of Trump’s presidency. For instance, Ashley, a young voter from New York, shared her frustrations about defending Democrats, saying it has become increasingly difficult due to a lack of conviction. “It’s exhausting, especially these past few months. People really need a sense of hope, and I feel like they’re not getting it,” she added.
When asked about what fighting Trump entails, Laura, who works for the postal service in Missouri, stated, “I don’t think battling Trump is the sole solution. We really need to find a way to bring both parties together to communicate without animosity.”
Van Jones expressed his concerns, stating that Democrats are “screwed” and admitted he feels uncertain about the way forward.
Opinion pieces also highlighted key Democratic figures like Senators Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries. However, some young voters shared their dissatisfaction with both leaders. One voter voiced frustration over Jeffries, citing an interview that did not sit well with her, while also criticizing Schumer’s budget proposal discussions.
Ashley, 19, mentioned she admires Representative Jasmine Crockett from Texas for her authenticity. “It feels like they’re just repeating the same tactics, even when it’s clear they’re not effective. It’s all just performance at this point,” she said.
Several others also criticized President Biden for deciding to run for reelection, citing concerns over Vice President Harris’s limited campaigning timeframe.
