A pregnant Israeli woman was shot and killed by a Palestinian assailant while driving to a hospital for her delivery in northern Samaria on Wednesday.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported the incident, confirming that initially, two civilians were injured.
According to reports, Meitel Ben Joseph, the head of the local council of the Brutin settlement, identified the victim as 30-year-old Tissella Gez, who was attacked while on her way to the hospital with her husband.
Doctors performed an emergency cesarean section in a bid to save her baby. The newborn boy, the couple’s fourth child, is currently in serious but stable condition.
Social media accounts brought attention to the tragedy, noting Hamas’s praise for the attacker.
IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir promised to take action to apprehend the perpetrator.
Israeli government spokesperson David Mensah described the attack as “cruel and mean,” occurring at a time when the victims were most vulnerable. He mentioned that Gez’s husband sustained minor injuries and had spoken to his children after the incident.
Mensah expressed that Israel aligns with President Donald Trump’s stance, who commented on nuclear deals with Iran regarding terrorism and support for proxy wars.
He emphasized that both the United States and Israel view Iranian nuclear capability as unacceptable.
Regarding Syria, Mensah reiterated that the country poses a continued threat to Israel’s northeast, regardless of any shifts in U.S. policy following governmental changes.
He also highlighted Israel’s commitment to protecting the Druze community in Syria.
“Israel aims for peaceful relations with its neighbors. We believe in achieving peace through actions, not mere words,” Mensah added.
