Chuck Todd Suggests Biden’s Circle Could Be “Toxic” for 2028 Candidates
Former NBC News host Chuck Todd expressed on Wednesday that, due to his ties with former President Biden, he might actually become a “toxic” presidential candidate for the Democrats in 2028. He noted that this Biden-related book, rather than helping him, may actually harm anyone associated with him.
During a podcast discussion, Todd remarked to Buttigieg, “You’re saying you didn’t really interact with Biden? Well, why not mention that earlier?” This was in reference to Buttigieg, who recently drew attention while speaking at a town hall event in Iowa, sparking rumors about his own ambitions for 2028. However, a past member of Biden’s Cabinet suggested that Buttigieg hasn’t made any official moves yet.
Todddelved deeper, wondering why interactions with Biden were so minimal. He pointed out that anyone who has been close to Biden, including current contenders like Gina Raimondo or Buttigieg, would face scrutiny about their experiences. Todd questioned if being linked to Biden could make someone, well, unwelcome in future political endeavors.
He further commented on Biden’s influence, implying that it could impact Trump’s potential second term. Todd expressed a mix of hope and skepticism, admitting that he thinks the current administration’s decisions are shaping the political landscape.
Buttigieg has not responded to media requests for comment. Todd has been openly critical of Democrats, especially as new accounts emerge outlining concerns about Biden’s viability heading into the 2024 election.
He also pushed back against the narrative that the media overlooked Biden’s decline. Todd argued that if people are dissatisfied with Biden’s performance, they should direct some of that frustration toward the leaders around him who may have been too hesitant to speak up when it mattered most.
In his commentary, Todd held Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer accountable, suggesting that Schumer and other party leaders have a role in the narrative surrounding Biden’s decline, especially after Schumer dodged questions about it in a recent CNN appearance. Todd said, “He’s part of the problem if he isn’t being honest about what he knows.”
