“So, what about the turntable?” It seems like Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torrey Lovullo’s response to Wednesday’s situation might have gotten a nod of approval from Michael Scott.
This amusing moment took place at Oracle Park in San Francisco, where Lovullo was ejected for disputing an obstruction call during the eighth inning. He confronted umpires Nick Marley, Mark Ripperger, Edwin Zimenez, and Nick Lentz, emphasizing, “You’re here!”
It appeared that with the Diamondbacks leading 8-6, D-back’s Christian Kos was running towards Arizona’s second base when he was obstructed by a single from Heriot Ramos. Despite this, Kos was allowed to remain on second base as he continued his run, which potentially set up a go-ahead opportunity following an appeal for interference against Roller.
Post-game, Lovullo admitted he was a bit confused about the whole situation but noted that his reaction felt instinctive. “In the heat of the moment, it wasn’t summed up to me,” he remarked, feeling as though the umpires were perhaps trying to justify their decision.
Ultimately, Lovullo acknowledged his mistake.
“They handled it correctly,” Lovullo stated. “The umpires are really good, and I’ve learned from this.”
The Diamondbacks clinched the game with a score of 8-7.
