Schumer Criticizes Trump Over Sinaloa Cartel Leaders Entering US

Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has expressed strong criticism towards President Trump following reports that 17 leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel entered the United States last week as part of a deal with the Trump administration.

During his remarks on the Senate floor, Schumer accused Trump of being “soft on crime,” suggesting that the president is effectively “unfolding a welcoming mat for El Chapo and his family and inviting them to our country.”

He emphasized, “If you have something to do with El Chapo, Donald Trump says, ‘Come in no time. Welcome to America.’ He’s going to roll out the red carpet.”

Schumer further questioned the implications of this approach, asking, “What message does this send to other drug lords, criminals, and terrorists? Where are your Republican colleagues on this? Where is the outrage from the other side of the aisle?”

In a radio interview, Mexican security secretary Omar Garcia Halfucci confirmed that the family of Obigio Guzman Lopez, who was extradited to the US in 2023, has entered the United States.

Guzman Lopez is one of the brothers of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman and took charge of a cartel faction after El Chapo’s imprisonment in the US.

Various rumors have circulated that Guzman Lopez is prepared to plead guilty to multiple drug trafficking charges in the US to avoid trial.

Garcia Halfucci stated that Mexican authorities were aware of the family’s plans following discussions between Guzman Lopez and the US government.

He remarked, “It’s clear that his family will go to the US for negotiations based on the offers from the Department of Justice.”
