Little boy impresses dad by catching his first fish
In Fonore, Tennessee, a young boy recently had a memorable first fishing experience, much to the delight of his father. The charming video captures the moment when Jaylon Beasley, just 3 years old, successfully reeled in a fish all by himself.
In other fishing news, West Virginia anglers recently set new records in the mountain states.
Jerry Porter, hailing from Harts, West Virginia, caught a black crappie while fishing at Eastlyn Lake in Wayne County.
The West Virginia Department of Natural Resources (WVDNR) reported that Porter’s catch measured 17.7 inches and weighed in at 3.6 pounds.
On the same day, two anglers managed to break state records. The sunfish were hooked using a minnow-tip jig on a 6-pound test line.
Previously, the state record for black crappie stood at 3.15 pounds and 17.76 inches, a record set in 2024.
According to the US Fish and Wildlife Services (FWS), black crappies typically measure around 10.8 inches, with the largest ever found weighing 6 pounds.
This year, it seems West Virginia has seen a surge in record-breaking catches.
On one particular day in April, two fishermen from the state managed to both set new records.
Jason Floyd caught a notable 24.57-inch, 5.75-pound Red Horse, while John Plott made waves with a 12.44-inch, 1.60-pound redrawn sunfish, marking his second record-breaking catch.
For those looking to fish in West Virginia, it’s important to note that anglers aged 14 and older need to obtain a state fishing license.
