Yankees strengthen bullpen with Jonathan Loáisiga’s return from injury ahead of schedule

Yankees Accelerate Jonathan Roashga’s Return

The Yankees have expedited Jonathan Roashga’s return, pulling him off the injured list sooner than originally intended.

He’s no longer on the rehab list ahead of the Metro Series opener in the Bronx on Friday.

Initially, the plan was for Roashga to pitch on consecutive days in the minors this weekend. However, the Yankees decided they felt he was ready to return sooner.

This move necessitated some roster changes. The Yankees designated Tyler Matzek for assignment after a brief stint, highlighting the performance he showed during his time with the team.

It’s noteworthy that Loáisiga made his Major League return for the first time since having elbow surgery about 13 months ago, on April 3rd of last year.

The right-handed pitcher showcased his strength with a strong performance in six rehab games, giving up only one run over nine innings.

Interestingly, he had the capacity to pitch two innings in one appearance at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre.

If Matzek had ended up getting claimed off waivers or traded, he would have seen just seven games with the Yankees.

For context, the seven-year major league veteran allowed three runs in six innings during his time with the team.
