Authorities have reported that nearly 12 inmates escaped from a prison in New Orleans on Friday morning, with at least one recaptured.

According to Principal Anne Kirkpatrick of the New Orleans Police Department, her agency was alerted around 10:30 AM regarding the escape of 11 individuals from the sheriff’s facility.

Upon receiving the information, she promptly deployed resources to assist the sheriff’s office. “This situation is both serious and urgent,” she stated during a press briefing. “Please be cautious. If you’ve seen any of the escape photos released by the Sheriff’s Office, it’s crucial to take action. Don’t hesitate—call 911 if you notice anything suspicious.”

Authorities warn that anyone discovered aiding the fugitives could face charges as accomplices.

The warrants for violent offenders involved in the escape are currently being pursued with the assistance of the FBI and federal authorities.

The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office has yet to respond to inquiries for comment.
