Rudy Gobert is facing personal challenges as the Timberwolves push through their playoff campaign.
Recently, it was reported that Gobert ended his relationship with his pregnant girlfriend, Julia Bonilla, asking her to move in with her one-year-old son, Romeo, just as the postseason began. This decision was made public on Friday.
After their separation, Bonilla attempted to return to France, but Gobert wants to discuss “child custody after the wolf season wraps up.”
The dynamics of their relationship shifted when Bonilla announced her pregnancy with their second child, according to reports.
Though he confirmed the breakup, Gobert expressed that he intends to support the people he cares about but noted that there’s some “inaccurate information” circulating without providing specifics.
Following the Timberwolves’ advancement to the Western Conference finals, Bonilla took to social media to share her feelings. She described this period as one of immense pain, feeling detached from her friends and family. She mentioned, “I considered Rudy the love of my life. I sacrificed so much for him, even bringing a child into this world and pouring my heart into our bond.”
Bonilla added that during tough times, she stood by Gobert, prioritizing his reputation, despite her own experiences. She firmly stated that personal misconduct was not a factor in their split.
“I have never been dishonest to my child’s father,” she maintained, emphasizing her commitment to being a responsible mother focused on well-being.
About a year ago, Gobert faced criticism for skipping a playoff game to welcome the birth of his son.
The Timberwolves are set to compete in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals on Tuesday, May 20, against the winner of the Nuggets-Thunder matchup.
