Person feared dead after car blasts near IVF center in Palm Springs

Explosion in Palm Springs Near Reproductive Facility

Authorities in Palm Springs, California, report that at least one person might have died following a car explosion close to a reproductive health center. However, officials have not confirmed whether the deceased is linked to the vehicle explosion. The facility’s management has assured that all employees are safe and unharmed.

Liwillial William Hutchinson mentioned to a local newspaper that the blast occurred likely due to a car parked at the clinic. He raised concerns about whether it could potentially be a terrorist act.

A social media update from the Palm Springs City Government indicated that the explosion happened around 11 a.m. local time on a Saturday, urging residents to avoid North India Canyon Drive near East Tacheva Drive.

According to reports, the explosion was strong enough to be felt up to two miles away, particularly near fertility clinics. Investigators from various agencies, including those focusing on alcohol, tobacco, firearms, and explosives, are now on-site.

Dr. Maher Abdallah, who oversees the reproductive clinic where the incident took place, confirmed over a phone call to the Associated Press that all his staff are accounted for. Thankfully, it seems the explosion mainly affected the clinic’s office space, while the in vitro fertilization lab and its embryos were undamaged.

“I really don’t know what happened,” Abdallah expressed. “Thank goodness it was a day without patients.”

Video shared by former Fox News correspondent Rick Leventhal showcases the significant damage outside the facility.

One witness, Nima Tabrizi, was inside a nearby cannabis clinic when he experienced the explosion. “The whole building shook. We went outside and saw the clouds growing larger,” he described. “It felt like a bomb had gone off… We approached the scene and saw human remains.”

For context, Palm Springs is a desert community located about a two-hour drive from Los Angeles, often recognized for its luxury resorts and its celebrity residents.
