Orioles Shake Things Up
The Baltimore Orioles have made a significant change, announcing the firing of manager Brandon Hyde after a tough start to the 2025 season.
Hyde was at the helm for over six seasons, leading the team through some challenging times.
In the interim, base coach Tony Mansolino will take over managerial duties.
Mike Elias, the executive vice president and general manager, acknowledged his role in the team’s disappointing performance. He stated, “It’s ultimately my fault for the poor start of our season. Part of that responsibility is pursuing difficult changes to set up another course for the future.”
Elias also expressed gratitude toward Hyde, recognizing his hard work and the achievements made during his tenure, including a return to the playoffs and winning the AL East Championship in recent years.
Hyde was brought on before the 2019 season to oversee Baltimore’s extensive rebuilding effort.
The team faced significant losses—over 100 games in consecutive seasons—before finally achieving a winning record in 2022, which was a relief for both fans and players alike.
Notably, just two seasons ago, Hyde was named the American League Manager of the Year after guiding the Orioles to the AL East Division title. Sadly, this season has turned out to be quite disappointing, with the Orioles currently sitting at the bottom of the AL East at 15-28, following two consecutive postseason appearances.
David Reubenstein, the team’s owner, praised Hyde for his deep baseball knowledge and impressive leadership. He added that while gratitude remains for Hyde’s contributions, the organization felt a change was necessary at this point.
Alongside this decision, the Orioles also parted ways with Tim Cossinz, their Major League field coordinator and catching instructor.
The Orioles will host the Nationals this Saturday at 4:05 PM ET.
