A Mexican influencer was tragically shot while livestreaming from her beauty salon. Valeria Marquez, known for her opulent lifestyle featuring yachts, private jets, and designer shopping sprees, expressed her worries during the stream. “Maybe they’ll kill me,” the 23-year-old said while broadcasting from Jalisco on Tuesday. “Are they going to come and take me away? I’m worried.”
Shortly after, a man off-screen called her name, prompting a response from her before the video was muted.
According to Jalisco State Prosecutor’s spokesperson Dennis Rodriguez, Marquez was given a stuffed animal and a Starbucks coffee bag just before a man who had previously posed as a delivery driver shot her in the head and chest.
Rodriguez mentioned that the assailant, along with another man, arrived on a motorcycle claiming to bring “expensive gifts” for Marquez. After handing over the items, the man then turned and fatally shot her.
Following the shooting, someone appeared to pick up Marquez’s phone, briefly showing her face on the livestream before it ended. TikTok later removed her account.
While no suspects have been identified yet, Rodriguez indicated that the area is now controlled by a new generation of Jalisco cartels. The technique used in the shooting—motorcycle gunmen—aligns with tactics typically associated with cartel hitmen, locally referred to as “Sicarios.”
“The attacker arrived and inquired about the victim, which suggests he might not have known her,” Rodriguez noted. “So, without jumping to conclusions, it seems likely that this was a paid hit. It was clearly a deliberate act.”
Authorities are also exploring the possibility that Marquez’s murder is connected to the shooting of a former lawmaker in the same Guadalajara area just hours earlier. That incident also involved motorcycle gunmen within a shopping mall.
