Griffin Reacts to Tension Between Rinklerk and Reese
Former NFL player Robert Griffin III weighed in on the heated exchange between Kate Rinklerk and Angel Reese during the WNBA matchup between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky on Saturday.
Things got tense when Reese was fouled hard by Rinklerk, which became a key moment in Indiana’s decisive 93-58 win over Chicago.
Griffin shared his thoughts on social media, suggesting that the incident revealed underlying feelings. He remarked, “After watching Caitlin Clark’s foul on Angel Reese and the aftermath, it’s clear that Angel Reese can’t keep claiming she doesn’t have issues with Caitlin Clark. I recognize what animosity looks like. Angel Reese holds some resentment towards Caitlin Clark.” That’s a bold statement, isn’t it?
The rivalry between Clark and Reese traces back to the 2023 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship, adding layers to their competitive dynamic.
Interestingly, both players downplayed this recent incident. Clark explained after the third quarter that there was “no malicious intent” in the foul.
Clark later commented, “It was just a basketball play. I’m not sure what the ref saw that warranted an upgrade in the call, but that’s up to their discretion. I’ve seen plenty of basketball in my time; it was a foul but nothing more.”
Reese echoed this sentiment, calling it simply “a basketball play.”
Fever coach Stephanie White maintained that it was a clear attempt at the ball, while crew chief Roy Galvean noted that Clark did make contact with Reese in an unnecessary manner.
Galvean stated, “Clark’s foul met the criterion for a Flagrant Foul 1. The way she wound up and followed through with contact on Reese is generally not considered a legitimate basketball play,” he explained.
Meanwhile, in terms of performance, Clark recorded her third career triple-double, scoring 20 points while grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out 10 assists. On the other hand, Reese achieved a double-double with 12 points and 17 rebounds.
