Republican Strategist Talks Budget Bill Status
Mark Bedner, a Republican strategist, reassured Matt Boyle from Breitbart News that despite some headlines suggesting otherwise, Congress’s considerable budget bills are still under consideration, and things aren’t as dire as they might seem.
Following the House Budget Committee’s rejection of the GOP bill on Friday, which resulted in a 16-21 vote, Chairman Jodey Arrington (R-TX) scheduled a redo session for Sunday night at 10 PM. He also addressed members with “unresolved concerns” about the legislation, including Chip Roy (R-TX), Ralph Norman (R-SC), Josh Bretzin (R-OK), and Andrew Clyde (R-GA).
Bedner commented on the media’s portrayal of the situation, saying, “Do you think you saw the headline yesterday saying, ‘The Republicans torpedoed their bills’? Really? This is just how the process works.” He emphasized that negotiations are ongoing and that final votes can often change as discussions evolve.
He went on to affirm his agreement with this view. “This doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s dying underwater,” Bedner stated. “But progress isn’t as straightforward as just tapping away at it. There’s still a lot left to tackle.”
In his explanation, he referenced President Donald Trump’s past dealings, describing the proposed budget as a “big and beautiful bill” while cautioning, “This is not time for arts and crafts.” He anticipates more of Trump’s involvement in the near future.
As the dialogue continues, Bedner pointed out that recent dissenters on the Budget Committee had initially supported the earlier House budget resolution. This indicates, he argues, that the current product has been improved and already has backing. He expressed confidence that Trump would help steer the proposal toward completion, with a potential uptick in his engagement in the coming hours and days.
