County cricket day four: Surrey against Yorkshire, Lancashire facing Derbyshire, and more – live

Sunday Summary

Greetings from a notably cooler Old Trafford, where the clouds have rolled in and the sky is quite grey. Currently, just four matches are still in play today after impressive victories yesterday from Glamorgan, Leicestershire, Somerset, Hampshire, and Worcestershire. Among the ongoing games, Yorkshire seems unlikely to sustain its innings at The Oval, even with the furious YJB present. Meanwhile, Kent is facing difficulties against Gloucestershire unless Grant Stewart can channel his earlier innings form. A draw seems likely at CLS, putting the spotlight on Old Trafford where Derbyshire may have their hands full facing Jimmy Anderson.

Play kicks off at 11am, and we’d love for you to join us.

Division Two

Bristol: Gloucestershire 516 vs Kent 424 and 135-4

Old Trafford: Lancashire 458 and 141-6 vs Derbyshire 314.

Lord’s: Leicestershire 274 and 102-3 defeated Middlesex 232 and 143 by seven wickets.

Leicestershire’s strong performance, with four wins out of six matches, is generating hopes of promotion. Middlesex stumbled dramatically, losing six wickets for just 34 runs and ending up at 143 in their second innings. Logan van Beek and Ben Green were pivotal with three wickets each, while Peter Handscomb hit the winning runs, marking Leicestershire’s first Championship victory at Lord’s in 45 years.

At Old Trafford, Derbyshire managed to avoid following on, thanks to some notably determined batting and contributions from the tail. Lancashire’s Jimmy Anderson was summoned back into action, but despite removing Zach Chappell, Ben Aitchison and Blair Tickner helped the visiting side secure their innings.

Lancashire also faced some collapses while trying to chase quick runs—including an astonishing catch-and-bowl by David Lloyd—yet a lead of 285 puts them in a favorable position for the second innings. Matthew Waite’s career-best performance of six for 19 helped Worcestershire secure their first win of the season against Essex, who fell short, bowled out for just 110 while chasing 336.

Lewis Gregory, fitting nicely into his new role as Somerset opener, scored a brisk 89 to guide Somerset to victory against Sussex, recovering from a precarious beginning at 30 for three.

In Edgbaston, James Fuller and Kyle Abbott dismantled Warwickshire while they were trying to chase 310 runs, losing two wickets for only ten runs—a climb too steep for them.

Lastly, Durham celebrated their highest-ever first-class score, buoyed by centuries from Emilio Gay, Ollie Robinson, and Graham Clark. Yorkshire finds themselves struggling against Surrey, despite a solid 64 not out from Jonny Bairstow. Meanwhile, Sam Northeast and Asa Tribe navigated Glamorgan to a convincing three-day win over Northamptonshire.
