Scottie Scheffler’s celebration after the PGA Championship takes a turn for the worse

Scotty Schaeffler was visibly excited after claiming the first PGA championship of his career. On the greens of Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina, he celebrated by tossing his hat and embracing his family—his wife, son, and parents—who all congratulated him warmly.

During the trophy ceremony, things got a bit comical. Schaeffler lifted the Wanamaker Trophy but, perhaps caught up in the moment, the lid slipped off and tumbled to the ground. He and the gathered fans couldn’t help but laugh, a reminder of a similar mishap that Colin Morikawa experienced back in 2020.

“They said it was heavy, but they didn’t mention the lid is detachable,” Schaeffler joked before the tournament commenced. “Honestly, it’s heavier than you’d think, and they suggest lifting it above your head.” He finished the final round with a score of 71, marking one of the most significant victories of his golfing journey.

His performance started a bit shaky, allowing John Rahm to get closer in the early holes. However, Schaeffler regained control as Rahm struggled on the back nine. Reflecting on the experience, Schaeffler remarked, “I think I was ahead by four or five shots at one point.” He added that the excitement of that back nine will stick with him for a long time.
