Dave Portnoy Criticizes WNBA As League Opens Inquiry Into ‘Hateful Remarks’ About Angel Reese

Controversy Surrounds WNBA Investigation

Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, has expressed strong opinions regarding a recent WNBA investigation, dubbing it “stupid.” His remarks came in light of allegations that “snarky comments” were aimed at Chicago Skystar Angel Reese during a game against the Indiana Fever.

The league initiated this investigation after reports surfaced of comments made during Saturday’s match. The WNBA emphasized its position against racism, hatred, and discrimination. However, the specifics of the allegations remain unclear, leading Portnoy to wonder if online speculation might be contributing to the narrative. He attended the game at Gainbridge Field House, sporting a Kate Linkler jersey.

In a video shared on Twitter, Portnoy noted that the only hostility he observed came from the interaction between Reese and Clark, after Clark committed a foul against Reese. Reese commented to Clark that she wasn’t particularly fond of her, while a referee deemed the foul to be without malicious intent.

“I was right there in the game. If someone was acting racist, we would definitely notice,” Portnoy remarked, expressing skepticism about the allegations. He acknowledged the friendly atmosphere of the crowd, filled with families and children, and questioned why anger would arise from an incident involving Reese and Clark.

Portnoy also criticized the WNBA’s response to the situation, stating that issuing statements in reaction to what he calls “trolls” only serves to tarnish the reputations of fans. “It feels like they’re trying to undermine something successful,” he added, suggesting that if proven wrong, he would take responsibility for his words, but he feels confident in his stance.

It remains to be seen how the investigation will unfold, and many are curious about the outcome.
