Coast Guard Disputes Schumer’s Statement on DOGE’s Role in Deadly NYC Ship Accident

Incident Involving Mexican Navy Ship Claims Lives

On Saturday, a Mexican navy ship was involved in an incident that resulted in the deaths of two individuals, with Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) pointing fingers at President Donald Trump and the Department of Efficiency (DOGE).

Schumer suggested that the U.S. Coast Guard’s (USCG) systems might not have been functioning at their best when this happened, as reported by Fox News on Monday.

He also claimed that a hiring freeze at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was contributing to the situation, although the Coast Guard has pushed back against this assertion.

“We know the Trump administration is meddling with the U.S. Coast Guard’s operations, affecting everything from staffing to communications. There’s a general dysfunction in certain parts of the Coast Guard,” he remarked.

In a social media post, Schumer highlighted, “Trump has released Admiral Linda Fagan from her position as USCG commander, which is still unfilled. This hiring freeze has hampered our ability to adequately staff transport services.”

Nevertheless, an article from Fox indicated there were no other ships involved in the incident associated with the Vessel Traffic Service (VTS), contradicting Schumer’s claims. The Coast Guard stated that the VTS was fully operational during the incident and adhered to established procedures for managing commercial traffic to ensure safe navigation.

According to officials, their response included launching crews from the New York Station and working with NYPD and FDNY to establish temporary safety zones.

Just before the collision, the brightly lit ship sailed near the Brooklyn Bridge before striking it, leading to a shocking scene as the mast fell, as noted by Breitbart news.

A video captured someone exclaiming, “There’s someone out there!” in response to the unfolding drama.

New York Mayor Eric Adams attributed the accident to mechanical issues that caused the ship to lose power, ultimately leading to the collision with the bridge.

Currently, authorities are reviewing the details surrounding this tragic incident.
