Wendy McMahon Resigns as CBS News President and CEO
Wendy McMahon, the President and CEO of CBS News, has announced her resignation, attributing her decision to ongoing disagreements within the company during a particularly challenging time.
In a note sent to staff, McMahon stated, “Today I am resigning from my position as president and CEO of CBS News and CBS Media Venture. This has been one of the most meaningful chapters of my career. Leading this extraordinary organization has been a once-in-a-lifetime honor because I was able to work with you.”
She continued, acknowledging the difficulties of recent months, “It has become clear that the company and I disagree about the path forward. It’s time for me to move on and for the organization to advance under new leadership.”
McMahon’s departure comes as Paramount Global, CBS’s parent company, is involved in mediations concerning Trump’s legal issues related to a $20 billion lawsuit. Last year, CBS was in the spotlight following a “60 Minutes” interview with then-President Kamala Harris, which sparked controversy over how her responses were presented.
Amidst the fallout, supporters of Trump criticized the network for allegedly manipulating the content of the interview. Meanwhile, Shari Redstone, a speaker for Paramount, has expressed a willingness to reach a settlement with Trump.
This resignation adds to a recent trend at CBS, following the exit of long-time “60 Minutes” producer Bill Owens.
In her closing remarks, McMahon expressed confidence in the continued success of CBS, saying, “There’s no doubt they’ll continue to set standards. To our audience: I appreciate your trust. You hold us accountable, and you’re the reason why it matters.”
