Increased crime leads to the closure of a Washington State restaurant due to unaffordable insurance.

In Washington State, a well-known Italian restaurant owner has recently closed shop, citing repeated criminal incidents and inadequate support from local Democratic leaders. Nirav Sheth, the former proprietor of Bistro Baffi, shared his frustrations on “Fox & Friends First,” shedding light on the pressure that led to his decision.

Sheth expressed the difficulty in obtaining business insurance and the weight of uncertainty surrounding his lease. He mentioned feeling trapped between declaring bankruptcy or closing the business for good.

Amidst growing crime rates, including thefts that impacted nearby establishments, Sheth noted the lack of action from officials despite an increased police presence. He shared an alarming incident where a nearby Subway was robbed, exemplifying the area’s deteriorating safety.

As he navigates the aftermath, Sheth’s restaurant remains in debt and efforts to find assistance have been unfruitful. He lamented, “If you’re only making $3,500 a week, it’s not sustainable—you have to stop.” Recent data from local law enforcement highlights a concerning trend in crime, revealing an 18.5% increase in violent crimes, a 22.5% jump in murders, and a 23.4% rise in robberies from 2020 to 2023.
