Confession in Shocking French Murder Case
A restaurant owner in France has admitted to killing a reclusive man during a botched robbery, and then attempted to conceal the crime by dismembering and cooking the body with vegetables.
Sixty-nine-year-old Philip Schneider and his partner, Natalie Cabubassy, 45, are currently facing trial for the alleged murder of 60-year-old Georges Meichler, who vanished in 2023.
According to reports, Schneider, a former butcher, confessed to police that he and Cabubassy killed Meichler during a break-in at his secluded home in a village nestled deep in the forest. Curiously, Cabubassy has denied any involvement in this crime.
Schneider reportedly warned investigators that revealing the details was quite frightening. He explained how they tied up Meichler and, after searching his home, found him dead. In one of his recountings, he mentioned they had returned only to discover the man had been strangled.
In an attempt to cover their tracks, Schneider stated that he dismembered the victim’s body, burning parts like the head, hands, and feet, which were scattered in various locations, including inside Meichler’s own van.
Additionally, he claimed to have tried cooking a portion of Meichler’s body with vegetables, suggesting it was part of a religious ritual he had learned during a trip to Nepal. This was apparently to mask any unpleasant odors.
Another accused in the case, a 25-year-old gravedigger, alleged that Schneider directed the cooking of the meat until it “falls off the bone,” telling anyone who questioned it that it was merely “dog food.”
Meichler’s daughter filed a missing person report after becoming concerned when her ex-partner said they hadn’t heard from him. Neighbors also noted they hadn’t seen him around for a while. Interestingly, she received a puzzling text message from her father during this time, which she found unusual since he rarely communicated via text.
A few days later, police discovered Schneider and Cabubassy in Meichler’s stolen van. Schneider asserted that Meichler had lent them the van, but soon thereafter, authorities uncovered the missing man’s body along with blood in the area where the couple was found.
Schneider attributed his actions to struggles with addiction to alcohol and cannabis, suggesting these issues pushed him to commit the robbery. Meanwhile, Cabubassy continues to maintain her innocence.
Schneider’s lawyer commented that his client accepts full responsibility for the crimes, describing Schneider’s actions as the result of a chaotic lifestyle fueled by substance abuse. He elaborated that following the murder, Schneider was engulfed in a sense of absurdity and fear due to the horrific act of dismembering the body.
Both Schneider and Cabubassy face serious charges, including the concealment of a corpse. The gravedigger is also implicated as an accomplice. A verdict is expected to be delivered on May 22nd.
