Jessica Mann Testifies Against Harvey Weinstein
Five years later, former actress Jessica Mann appeared once more before a New York judge, recounting her alleged rape by Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein in a Midtown hotel room back in 2013.
Now 38, Mann became emotional as she described the incident at the Doubletree Hotel on March 18, 2013. She recounted how Weinstein had locked her in a room, used a drug typically for erectile dysfunction, and forced it on her.
“This is the moment I just gave up,” she said.
Following the encounter, she discovered a needle in the trash that had a name similar to “something in the necro.” She shared with the judge that, upon searching online, she found it meant something akin to “dead penis.” “I was surprised. Was I exposed to anything? It was scary,” she added.
Despite the horrific experience, Mann conveyed that she continued a complicated relationship with Weinstein. “I decided to have a relationship with him. Sorry if it was a bad decision. I just did that. I just wanted to buy some time because I didn’t know how to handle it either,” she sobbed in court.
She portrayed Weinstein as “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” referencing a gothic horror tale about a seemingly charming man who committed a shocking crime. “Sometimes he tested me very much… but the word ‘no’ was like a trigger for him,” she explained.
Before the rape incident in 2013, Mann mentioned that Weinstein had previously coerced her into oral sex during their first private meeting in Los Angeles. She recalled how he had invited her and a friend to his hotel room, where, alone in the bedroom, he forced her against her will, describing it as a “fight.” Despite her distress, Mann later entered into a relationship with him, believing it might ease her pain. “I thought it would take away the pain,” she shared.
Mann expressed her fear of speaking out at the time due to Weinstein’s power and influence. “I remember imagining that if I said anything, he would call his friend and that Secret Service would greet me,” she said.
She also noted that she refused to accept any money from Weinstein, feeling it would be akin to being treated like a “dirty prostitute.” “I didn’t want his dirty money. I wasn’t on sale,” she asserted.
The retrial follows Weinstein’s 2020 conviction, and he faces up to 25 years in prison if found guilty of the most severe rape charges linked to Mann’s testimony.
Jessica Mann is the last of three accusers to testify in this retrial. Previously, former teenage model Kaja Sokora and former production assistant Miriam “Mimi” Haley had also shared similar allegations against Weinstein. Prosecutors presented their testimonies not only for specific charges but to illustrate Weinstein’s predatory patterns.
Weinstein, now 73, has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
