Child Minder Sentenced for Inciting Violence
A former child minder received a 31-month prison sentence following her involvement in a series of attacks in Southport that targeted asylum seekers. This occurred after her appeals against the verdict were rejected by the Court of Appeals.
Lucy Connolly, whose husband is a Conservative councillor, made a public post on X last July reflecting on the events surrounding her sentencing.
The context for her comments was the tragic knife attack on three girls at a holiday club in Southport on July 29, which sparked widespread chaos across the country.
This particular tweet garnered significant attention, with around 310,000 views within a mere three and a half hours before she decided to delete it.
Connolly was sentenced last October at Birmingham Crown Court after admitting to charges related to inciting racial hatred.
Her husband, Raymond Connolly, who served as a Tory Councillor in West Northamptonshire, lost his seat in the recent May elections.
During the trial, it was revealed that the day before her arrest, Connolly had sent a WhatsApp message that included an alarming statement about setting fire to a hotel. She also reportedly claimed she would “play the mental health card” if questioned and would deny accountability for her online post.
Naeem Valli, who is responsible for overseeing the case, noted that despite not having any previous convictions, Connolly expressed intentions to continue working with children, even in unconventional circumstances.
She further tweeted about the knife attack, suggesting that her home was among those “invaders on these boats.”
